KINCHAN, Sen. Dufer on Tuesday revealed that a bettor appeared to have won the lottery 20 times in one month, citing a list submitted by the Philippine Charity Lottery Authority.
Duf said in an interview: "The Philippine Charity Lottery Office gave me a list of lottery winners, and what caught our attention was that a bettor won 20 times in just one month. There was also a bettor who won 20 times in just one month. Won 10 prizes in a month.”
He added: "Maybe some of the winners just have the same name, but they all won in the same lottery game."
Dufault is conducting an investigation into the betting operations of the Philippine Charity Lottery Bureau. In addition to the list of winners, the agency also submitted documents related to the lottery to the Senate committee, including the tax records of jackpot winners.
"Why is there a winner every time? Before electronic lotteries, it would take a month or two before someone won," Dufer said.
In a separate interview, Philippine Charity Lottery General Manager Rob Reese said they would look into the observations disclosed by Dufau and could also look into the matter.
"I don't know the information because I don't look at it very often. But I will verify the information. We can look into it. It's not a difficult thing to look into," Robredo said.
Amid accusations of frequent lottery wins and questioning from senators, Robles has repeatedly denied that the Philippine Lottery Authority can manipulate lottery results.
Robles said at a previous Senate hearing: "We promise you that it can never be manipulated. So we are allowed to bet, even I can bet, because I don't have the ability to manipulate. Even if we wanted to, with what we have, System, we can’t do it either.”
He added: "I dispute that charge. Of course, because the jackpots are bigger, more people will bet. That's really our aim, to attract more punters."
Robles also previously explained that there are surplus funds to increase Lotto prizes, which they use as a "marketing campaign" to encourage the public to place bets for higher prizes.
