Manila, Philippines - June 7, 2024- Senator Rafael“Raffy”Tulfo has initiated a Senate investigation into the increasing number of Chinese nationals residing in Multinational Village, Parañaque City, Metro Manila. This move follows numerous complaints from local residents concerned about the surge of Chinese nationals since 2019 and the potential presence of Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs) within the upscale gated community.

Concerns Over Overcrowding and Immigration Laws

Senator Tulfo highlighted reports of overcrowded homes, which violate the village’s regulations. In response, he introduced Senate Resolution 1043, calling for a comprehensive review of the country's immigration laws to address possible loopholes that may be contributing to the situation.

Investigation into Human Trafficking and Scamming Activities

In a parallel move, Senator Sherwin Gatchalian has filed Senate Resolution 1032, advocating for an investigation into alleged human trafficking and scamming activities within the subdivision. Gatchalian emphasized the growing concerns of homeowners about the increasing number of“suspicious-looking”foreign nationals, particularly in an area known as“City Garden.”

Recent Raid and Arrests

A recent raid on a residence in Multinational Village resulted in the arrest of 10 Chinese nationals suspected of involvement in love and cryptocurrency scams. Additionally, a Filipino bodyguard was apprehended with an undocumented firearm. These individuals are believed to be fugitives from a prior raid on an illegal online gambling compound in Bamban, Tarlac.

Addressing National Security and Safety

Senator Gatchalian stressed the need to identify lapses and loopholes in government processes and national security that have allowed for increased crimes mostly involving foreign nationals. He underscored the importance ofprotecting Filipino citizens from such illegal activities and ensuring adherence to international treaties and conventions related to human trafficking and cybercrime.

“There is a need to identify the lapses and loopholes in government processes and national security that have allowed for increased crimes mostly involving foreign nationals, posing a serious threat to the safety and security of Filipino citizens,”said Gatchalian.

Both senators are committed to safeguarding the welfare of Filipino citizens by addressing the issues brought by the influx of foreign nationals and ensuring that the country’s laws and regulations are effectively enforced.
